Lewy's Lines: The Oaks, Sessay, 16th October 2011

Lewy's Lines: The Oaks, Sessay, 16th October 2011: Hoppy's Memorial Match organised by the lads at Anglers Cabin.

The above is an excellent blog and well worth reading.

This was the first and only match I have ever fished to date, it was a really enjoyable day although I come 11th and weighted in at 2lb 11oz.

I am looking forward to my second match at
Yarm fishery on the 4/08/12 which is a practise match with my friends, as I am a fishing charity match on the 18/04/12 at this venue in aid of The Junction which raises money for a Young Carers in Redcar.

Thanks for the great blog Lewy.

Charlton’s Small Pond 27/07/12

Today both my kids and I decided to go fishing again and went back to Charlton’s small pond for another session. We got there at 12.00 and packed up at 4.00.

Had a bit of a issue before we got there as I could not get parked outside of my local tackle shop Spotty Dog in Stockton, however I rang them and they brought the maggots out to the car for me. We then got to the car park for the pond and Hannah noticed that I had forgotten to pick up the kids seats so had to drive back home to get them.

I fished using my Garbolino 9ft Super Squad Picker with a Preston 15g Banjo method feeder and used a size 18 pre tied Preston quickstop 4” hair rig.

My bate of choice today was ringer groundbait mix with added 2mm micro and Asda sweet corn on the hair rig.

Fishing was a fish a chuck again, ended up catching 1 little roach, 9 nice sized Skimmers, a 1.5lb Bream and a very nice looking 2lb Mirror Carp, again I lost a fish at the net as it spat the hook.

The kids also seemed to really enjoy fishing again and even had a little go on my Leeda 12ft waggler rod with a classic 2bb crystal float, needless to say they are both wanting to go again tomorrow, however, I have been fishing 3 times this week and need to sorted my gear out for a match on the 4/08/12 at Yarm Fishery.

An excellent couple of hours again and I will definitely be fishing there again, they reckon that the Bream go to 6lb in the pond and the Carp to 7lb.

Charlton’s Small Pond 26/07/12

I had an opportunity today to take both of my kids fishing as both wanted to go, so I took them to Charlton’s which is part of Billingham Angling Club, I am a member and decided to fish the small pond, we got there at 12.30 and packed up at 4.30.

I fished using my Garbolino 9ft picker with a small cage feeder to a swivel and used a size 16 pre tied Drennan hook length, which I have to say I am not a great fan off.

Emma age 6 on the left & Hannah age 4 on the right.

My bate of choice was ringer groundbait mix with added 2mm micro and ringers 4mm expanders topped with carp vader liquid sopex.

Fishing got off to a great start and we hooked our first silver on the first chuck and we continued to catch silver a chuck, although I did miss some bites as had to sort the kids out every one in a while.

On one of my casts my rod bent double as soon as the bate hit the water and the line started to scream off the reel, I believed I was in for a great fish, but unfortunately it snapped my 4lb hook length at the net and I never seen the fish, I would like to say is was a monster but it could have been fowl hooked. My biggest fish was a nice skimmer bream which is on the picture to the right.

Both my kids now appear to be hooked and both are wanting to go again tomorrow. The weather was horrible when we got there and rained for the first three hours or so.

All in all an excellent couple of hours and needless to say I will be going back again soon, just a shame I did not catch of the 200 carp that were recently put into the lake, oh well I might get one next time.

Renny Carp big lake 7/7/12

On the 7/7/12 I went to Renny lake and fished for 5 hrs in total.

When I got up at 4am it was foggy as hell, then as I got to Renny at 6am it was clear blue sky.

I fished using my Garbo 9ft picker with an 1/2oz tip, Drennan cage feeder filled with a mixture of dead maggots, bream 3000, brown crum, I used double live maggots on a Drennan hook size 16. It Fished really well for the first 4 hrs and I pulled in some 20plus fish all carp about the 1lb mark.

When I left the weather was pulling in foggy.

While there I met and talked to Jday and Ged, from Anglers Cabin which is a forum I use on a daily basis and I highly recommend it to everyone,  both the lads I met were nice and friendly.

Over all a cracking day, although no fish bigger then 2lb today, I will be visiting Renny again soon.

Dromonby Farm Fishery 24/07/12

My First Blog, so here it goes.....

My friend Andy and I decided to fish Drombo this evening and fished the middle lake (one next to the car park).

Before we started I had a word with a couple of lads who had been there all day who stated they had only caught 3 carp and no silvers and had been there since 8am.

We started fishing at 4pm, I equipped with my 9ft Gardo super squad picker, Drennan 25g feeder and Preston quick stop 4” hook trace. I used ringers method mix with added 2mm pellets and double corn or marine halibut 8mm pellets on the rig.

Fishing got off to a flying start and I was pulling out lots of nice sized silvers from the off using the halibut pellets, I then switched to corn and had lots more silvers and 5 nice carp the smallest been about 1lb with the been largest 3.5ld, this was the first time I had used corn and been successful with it and I think this was due to the Preston method rig. I also found out to my detriment that they are very sharp when I got it in my finger (I think this means that I was hooked, literally!).

The down side to my trip was the 3 idiots who turned up and decided to fish every peg which was available moving every 5 minutes, they also then decided to fish away from each other and only had one landing net between them which resulted in the running around the pond and been very annoying, one of the young men also decided to take a telephone call and put his misses on loud speaker who proceeded to shout and swear at him down the phone.

However, on the funny side Andy my mate slipped on setting up his gear resulting in him plunging both of his legs into the pond and having to pod about with no shoes on.

Overall it was a great evening session and I am looking forward to my next trip to Yarm fishery on the 04/08/12.
